Secure, rotate, and restrict a Station Board link

Treat the launch link as a credential and limit where it opens.

Understand the outcome

The link and optional network restriction are the only access controls on the TV.

Station Board turns a station TV into a no-login display. Design boards on a 1920×1080 canvas with 20 widgets, rotate up to three slides, and publish through a private launch link you can rotate and restrict to your station’s network. Live widgets refresh every 30 seconds. Station Board requires Core, Integrations, and Time Clock.

What this procedure is for

This guide focuses specifically on “Secure, rotate, and restrict a Station Board link.” Complete it from an account with the appropriate Station Board access, verify it from the affected member or operational view, and preserve existing records rather than repurposing historical configuration.

Before you begin

Make the decision before changing the screen. Record the current configuration when the department already uses this feature, and use a test record or test account when the change can affect active members.

  • Know your station’s public IP or CIDR range.
  • Plan how TVs get a new link.
If a control is missing

Do not work around it from another member’s account. Confirm that Station Board is enabled, its dependencies are active, and your role grants the exact management action required for this task.

Where to work and what access you need

Start from the portal destination named in the procedure. Administrators normally need permission to view Station Board plus the specific create, edit, manage, approve, report, or all-record action used by the task. Visibility alone does not grant management access.

  • Station Boards/settings/station-board
  • Board editor/settings/station-board/:id
  • Public display/board/:token

Required foundation

  • Core must be enabled and correctly configured before this workflow can operate reliably.
  • Integrations must be enabled and correctly configured before this workflow can operate reliably.
  • Time Clock must be enabled and correctly configured before this workflow can operate reliably.

If your department uses custom roles, test the procedure with that role—not only with a full administrator account. This confirms the people responsible for daily operations can complete the workflow without receiving unrelated access.

Complete the task

  1. Step 1Review boards

Confirm only intended boards are published.

  2. Step 2Add restrictions

Enter IPv4/IPv6 addresses or CIDR ranges.

  3. Step 3Test at the station

Open the board on the TV.

  4. Step 4Test from elsewhere

    Confirm other networks are blocked.

  5. Step 5Rotate if exposed

Generate a new link and update every TV.

  6. Step 6Unpublish retired boards

Turn off boards you no longer use.

Operational safeguards

Apply these module-level controls while completing the procedure. They prevent a technically saved configuration from becoming an operational or access problem later.

  • Control point
Enable Integrations and Time Clock before creating a board.
  • Control point
Test each integration before adding its widget.
  • Control point
Start from a template and keep the first board simple.
  • Control point
Preview every slide at 1920×1080 from across the room.
  • Control point
Treat the launch link like a password.
  • Control point
Restrict the link to the station network when the address is stable.

Verify the result

Do not consider the setup complete merely because the save action succeeded. Confirm the behavior from the user-facing or operational view, then retain evidence of the test when department policy requires it.

  • The TV opens the board.
  • Old links stop working.
  • Other networks are blocked.

If any verification fails, return to the source configuration and correct it there. Do not edit a report or downstream record to conceal an incorrect setup.

Troubleshooting

Station IP changed

Update the restriction.

TV stopped working after rotation

Update the TV with the new link.

Link was shared

Rotate it immediately.

Related Station Board capabilities

This task sits inside a larger module workflow. These related capabilities may affect the result or provide the next administrative step:

  • Staffing widgets: On Duty Now, Unit Status Board, and Today’s Schedule
  • Active911 recent calls with an optional full-screen popup for new calls
  • Weather conditions and forecast from any connected provider, plus an animated radar map
  • PSTrax checks due, open alerts, alert feed, fleet status, and notices
  • Announcements, credits leaderboard, news, text, images, logo, QR codes, and banners
  • One to three slides, 3–600 seconds each, with 12 transition styles
  • Launch links you can rotate and restrict to IPv4/IPv6 addresses or CIDR ranges
  • Automatic refresh every 30 seconds

Use the module hub to open the dedicated procedure associated with any capability listed here.

Connected modules and downstream effects

A change here can alter what members see, what data appears in reports, or how another module completes its workflow. Review the connected areas below before making a department-wide change.

  • SchedulingAvailability, rotations, schedule building, trades, time off, and callouts.
  • CreditsActivities, goals, periods, requests, leaderboard, prizes, and Time Clock credit.

After deployment, test one complete workflow from the originating module through every connected destination your department uses. Document the final configuration so another administrator can audit or reproduce it later.
