Before your department relies on it
- 1
Plan a small set of channels before launch.
- 2
Use read-only channels for announcements that should not collect replies.
- 3
Set post roles carefully for department-wide channels.
- 4
Choose sensible default notification levels.
- 5
Tell members to install the mobile app and allow notifications if they want push.
- 6
Archive stale channels instead of leaving them open.
Portal destinations
These destinations appear only when the module is enabled and your roles grant the required access.
| Area | Portal path |
|---|---|
| Chat | /modules/chat |
| Channel | /modules/chat/:channelId |
Associated modules
Required modules must be enabled first. Related modules exchange data or extend the workflow when both are available.
Dependencies
RequiredCoreAnswers before you get stuck
Can members message each other privately?
No. Chat is organized into channels; there are no direct messages.
Can members create channels?
No. Channels are created by users with the channel-management permission.
What happened to Spaces?
Spaces has been retired. Conversation now lives in Chat, and service requests live in Tickets.
Does Chat send email?
No. New messages appear in the portal and as push notifications in the mobile app.
Where do GIFs come from?
The GIF button searches GIPHY and returns PG-rated results only. The GIF you pick is saved as a normal chat attachment, so people reading the channel never connect to GIPHY. If the GIF button is missing, GIF search is not configured.
